Recent Coaching Changes and Additions

It is that time of year for coaching changes through out college football. Here are a few hirings and firings as of late:

  • Mack Butler is the new director of football operations at Oklahoma State. He is filling a vacancy when Jimmy Gonzales was fired earlier this month. Also at Oklahoma State, Bill Young was hired as the new defensive coordinator. Young returns to his alma mater after leaving Miami.
  • Doug Graber was named assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Ball State. Ball State also added Deion Melvin as linebackers coach and Pat Perles as offensive line coach.
  • South Carolina has hired former Tennessee star Jay Graham as the new running backs coach. Graham spent last season as the running backs coach at Miami of Ohio.
  • Former Louisville running backs coach, Tony Alford, has been hired as the running backs coach for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
  • Massachusetts Minutemen offensive coordinator, Kevin Morris, has been named Head Coach.
  • New Tennessee Volunteers head coach, Lane Kiffin, has named Jim Chaney as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. Chaney is the former offensive line coach for the St. Louis Rams. Kiffin also announced that former Auburn assistant Eddie Gran will become the special teams coordinator/running backs coach, and former Southern Mississippi assistant Frank Wilson will become the wide receivers coach. Former Alabama assistant coach Lance Thompson will work with the linebackers, while former North Dakota State assistant Willie Mack will become the new defensive backs coach.
  • The South Florida Bulls have fired offensive coordinator Greg Gregory. No successor has been named yet.
  • Jeremy Bates has been named the new assistant heach coach/quarterbacks at USC, filling the vacancy left by Steve Sarkisian, who left to become the head coach at the University of Washington.
  • Michigan has hired Greg Robinson as the new defensive coordinator. Robinson is the former Syracuse head coach that was fired mid-November after going 10-37 in four seasons.
  • Air Force has signed head coach Troy Calhoun to a five year contract, keeping him at the school through the 2013 season.
  • Boston College named long-time defensive coordinator Frank Spaziani to the head coach position after the termination of former head coach Jeff Jagodzinski.
